The upcoming ISA Glasnevin Walk and Talk in April will mark 10 years of Walk and Talk events. The first ISA Walk and Talk took place in Upperchurch, Tipperary in 2013, and since that time, Walk and Talk  a number of events have been held each year. Over the years, we have walked Dublin, mountain to sea, we spent some time in Kilmainham jail, and we even managed a virtual Walk and Talk event around the streets of Venice during the Covid-19 lockdown!

Walk and Talks are an opportunity for people to meet and spend time in like-minded company. ISA welcomes all those with an interest in stammering and over the years attendees have included people who stammer, parents, siblings, extended family members, speech and language therapists, and others connected by stammering.

Walk and Talk events combine fresh air and exercise with social connection, and the positive benefit of this on mental wellbeing is well documented in research. I have always left Walk and Talk events in a positive mindset regardless of weather conditions. We have received positive feedback from lots of people over the years, too. Stammering is but one of many topics discussed on the walks.

Attending a Walk and Talk event offers a great opportunity to informally find out about what the ISA offers to the stammering community in Ireland. You’ll meet ISA members, leaders in the stammering community, speech and language therapists, and others, all of whom want to meet you and answer any query you have.

Although it is a Walk and Talk event, people are welcome to come along and just enjoy the walk. Talking is optional, not mandatory.
Walk and Talk events cater for all, including those whose preference is to leave the talking to others.

The ISA wants to meet more people and grow the stammering community in Ireland. We hope you will join us in April or at a Walk and Talk in future.
